Can we associate social risk and the complexity of intervention by social work with the average stay in hospital and the destination upon being discharged? Application of the ECISACH-BCN PSMAR scale and the Gijón scale as instruments of assessment in soci

Abstract

In the Western world, new phenomena are developing, such as the aging of the population, which leads to growing concern on the part of social workers who deem this to be a multifactorial problem. The hospitalization of elderly patients in Western countries has become a growing phenomenon in recent years.

Goals: a) To verify if there is a gender gap in the nucleus of coexistence, the duration of the hospital stay and the destination upon discharge of patients admitted to the internal medicine service of Hospital del Mar in Barcelona; b) To determine whether the social risk and complexity of the intervention by social work (SW) is related to the average hospital stay and the destination upon discharge; and c) To study which variables are related to the socio-family framework, the clinical situation and inpatient SW.

The results show that there is a gender gap in the nucleus of coexistence and that women undergo a longer hospital stay than men. Both the social risk and complexity of the social intervention are related to the destination upon discharge. The average stay is related to the number of days the start of the demand for intervention is delayed, the clinical situation, inpatient SW and the overall complexity of the social work intervention. Variables related to: a) the socio-family situation are: age, social risk and the number of days by which the start of the intervention is delayed; b) the clinical situation are: the average stay, the social risk and the destination upon discharge; and c) inpatient SW: the average stay.
